“MELBOURNE, Australia — Serena Williams, a surprise winner at the Australian Open last year as an unseeded outsider, was a surprise loser Tuesday against Jelena Jankovic in the quarterfinals. Williams’s fine, early form in this tournament dissolved in a sea of unforced errors, halting steps and oddly unconvincing serves.
Seeded seventh, Williams had her serve broken seven times as the third-seeded Jankovic won, 6-3, 6-4, in 1 hour 39 minutes to reach her first semifinal in Melbourne.”
